A Christmas Quilt to show off

This fall I made a duvet cover for an exceptional 15 year old hockey player.  The quilt was commissioned by his grandmother to commemorate his hockey journey thus far.  She dropped off a bag of his jerseys – and one special jersey of his grandfather’s as well.  She said something like ” just go for it and have fun – I trust you”. That is the kind of thing a creative person loves to hear!  Well, here is a shot of the layout that I sent for preview back in late summer:

Just today I was sent a photo of the finished quilt on his bed – I think it looks more authentic/impressive in its proper environment.

A final note about this quilt – grandparents told me that this young man was so moved by this he was speechless!  How cool !

Glad I made someone’s Christmas brighter and I hope in the next few days that my family will be a little brighter with my efforts.

Merry Christmas and Happy New  Year to all.

New Look

I felt the need for my blog to have a new fresh look that was a bit more fun than the previous one – so here it is !

With this new look comes a photo of an ugly chair in my house that also needs a makeover!  I will be making it and its two companion loveseats new slipcovers over the holidays.

Just one more service which I hope to add to my custom sewing in the new year.

I currently provide roman shades, valances, zippered seat cushionspillows, sheers, and bed skirts.  If I have not mentioned what you need here - please ask.

Thanks for looking – and I hope you like the new look!

Lunch today

Today I am off to my Women In Networking lunch at the lovely Adelaide Place in Lindsay!  We get together the first Thursday of each month to network, share ideas, and enjoy some wonderful food from their chef.  I have been a member for a year now and look forward to this event each month.  If you are a business woman in the Kawartha Lakes area you should check out the link to the W.I.N. blog here .  Every member has a 1 minute opportunity to describe themself/their business/upcoming events, and there is a speaker each month.  Next month we will have our Christmas Bazaar where all members can do some shopping while enjoying lunch.

Guests are always welcome provided that the proper notice is given to the chef - we don’t want anyone to go hungry!

Below are photos of recently completed work.  Flanged pillow covers with a contrasting fold over back.

Busy sewing

A very busy summer leads in to a busy autumn!  I have been at my sewing machine daily trying to finish up the piles.  I can see most of the sewing room floor now so that is progress!  Below are photos of 8 work shirts drafted from one the customer loved that was falling apart.  Her patients love to see what she will be wearing each week.  I may be called in to service again for some holiday shirts once fabric is found.  There are 3 pics of the customer wearing her new shirts on my “Custom” page if you care to see how they fit.

A new window seat

Custom Window SeatThis window seat was a custom job that I completed in the spring.  Yes, I am only now getting around to posting the photo and describing it!  Life gets busy from time to time and my online updates are usually the first thing to go (besides dusting).  I met my new customer at the Lindsay Lifestyle Show  which was held in April at the Lindsay Fairgrounds.  A lovely lady who asked for this very large trapezoidal seat to be constructed for her daughter so she would not have to make it!  There is a zipper in back for easy removal and cleaning, as well as piping on top and bottom edges.  Then it was decided there needed to be pillows for the kids.

Since that time I have made her two kimonos drafted off an existing one which was falling apart.  Photos of those will follow if she lets me put them on here!

Now I must get back to my Balsam Lake project – 4 roman shades done, and only 13 to go !  Wish me luck!

Sheers for the bedroom

These custom made sheers were completed in spring of 2011.

For the customers’ master bedroom.

Recent work

Custom work completed in summer 2011.

This was a custom order completed in summer 2011.  The squares were purchased in Hawaii 30 years ago and made into this quilt for the recipient’s 80th birthday!
