Zippers in all colours

Just a quick note today to let the local folks know that I can get almost any colour of zipper from my supplier.  The photo below has the new zipper in it – purple separating – to give the coat another life.

You do have to be patient though, as my supplier is online and that means we have to wait for it to be delivered!

Now a sneak preview to a project I will be starting tomorrow…

Keeping up the pace

I am trying very hard to keep up with photographing my work this year – that is where I fall down every time.  Then I look back at what I have done and end up not posting as I have no pictures to show off.

So here are two of my latest works.

The first photo is of a journal cover I made for my custom orders with drawings, measurements, and other details.  It was a Pampered Chef binder which needed improvement in my opinion.  The fabrics are all Australian and were given to me by my sister after one of her numerous trips to see our brother and family in Sydney.

The second photo is of a simple valance made for a custom order.  There were also 5 roman shades and 1 more valance – but I will post those once they are up in their proper home!  It has 2 seams as it is 65″ wide – email me if you find them!

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

One Done

So, I have been away from blogland since Christmas but very busy with work and family.  Being sick at Christmas and the two weeks before was not much fun – but all is well now.  I have lots of jobs lined up already so I feel positive about the year!

I made a “resolution” to get more quilts done this year and use up some of the stash just sitting here.  My first quilt for the year is for my daughter who will be leaving us for University in the fall!  Wow, I feel old and sad and happy at the same time.  Just another one of those milestones parents have to contend with/be proud of.

So, I started putting together these 25 patch scrap blocks two years ago and decided it was time to get it out of the way.  I feel great that I have this done – it came from mostly s(crap) – she loves all the bright colours in it – and I get to check off number 1 on my list of sewing/quilting projects!  I also took on the quilting with my own machine – not a long arm, and love the way the squiggly lines look in the variegated Lava thread used.

Cheers !

A Christmas Quilt to show off

This fall I made a duvet cover for an exceptional 15 year old hockey player.  The quilt was commissioned by his grandmother to commemorate his hockey journey thus far.  She dropped off a bag of his jerseys – and one special jersey of his grandfather’s as well.  She said something like ” just go for it and have fun – I trust you”. That is the kind of thing a creative person loves to hear!  Well, here is a shot of the layout that I sent for preview back in late summer:

Just today I was sent a photo of the finished quilt on his bed – I think it looks more authentic/impressive in its proper environment.

A final note about this quilt – grandparents told me that this young man was so moved by this he was speechless!  How cool !

Glad I made someone’s Christmas brighter and I hope in the next few days that my family will be a little brighter with my efforts.

Merry Christmas and Happy New  Year to all.

More goods to see

Just a quick update to my “goods” page today as I added more photos of items ready to go for Christmas.

This little 5 pocket bag below is my favourite.

New Look

I felt the need for my blog to have a new fresh look that was a bit more fun than the previous one – so here it is !

With this new look comes a photo of an ugly chair in my house that also needs a makeover!  I will be making it and its two companion loveseats new slipcovers over the holidays.

Just one more service which I hope to add to my custom sewing in the new year.

I currently provide roman shades, valances, zippered seat cushionspillows, sheers, and bed skirts.  If I have not mentioned what you need here - please ask.

Thanks for looking – and I hope you like the new look!

Lunch today

Today I am off to my Women In Networking lunch at the lovely Adelaide Place in Lindsay!  We get together the first Thursday of each month to network, share ideas, and enjoy some wonderful food from their chef.  I have been a member for a year now and look forward to this event each month.  If you are a business woman in the Kawartha Lakes area you should check out the link to the W.I.N. blog here .  Every member has a 1 minute opportunity to describe themself/their business/upcoming events, and there is a speaker each month.  Next month we will have our Christmas Bazaar where all members can do some shopping while enjoying lunch.

Guests are always welcome provided that the proper notice is given to the chef - we don’t want anyone to go hungry!

Busy sewing

A very busy summer leads in to a busy autumn!  I have been at my sewing machine daily trying to finish up the piles.  I can see most of the sewing room floor now so that is progress!  Below are photos of 8 work shirts drafted from one the customer loved that was falling apart.  Her patients love to see what she will be wearing each week.  I may be called in to service again for some holiday shirts once fabric is found.  There are 3 pics of the customer wearing her new shirts on my “Custom” page if you care to see how they fit.
